The Lighthouse Project
We live in times of chaos and upheaval.
And it is particularly in these times, when anxiety and fear on an unprecedented scale dominate our collective consciousness, that we need communities of hope within which to gather.
Here, we can learn to re-imagine both individually and collectively and restore our creativity, and faith.
The Lighthouse: Fires and beacons in the form of expressive, compassionate communities of aliveness and creativity are needed to illuminate the oncoming darknesses. With a safe passage, we are not forever lost at sea. The path was always there; unseen until illuminated.
For this revival of the imagination to take place, we need to learn to practice ourselves, behaviourally and creatively. And for these practices to be birthed and revived in us, there is a necessary self-discipline and commitment needed, and an understanding of the universal truths and cycles of life; a discovery of soul.
Artists, teachers, poets, illuminaries, musicians, mystics… inspire us inwards, to the unique genius embedded in all of us.
That’s where our soul lies.
Civilisations rise and fall. Ours perhaps. This is not a cause for fear, as in the burning out of one flame, the earth renews preparing the ground for another. In times today where meaning is difficult to find, where collective anxieties overtake us, the planet floods and burns, and where truth and lies might seem interchangeable, restorative work is needed more than ever..
And so - The Lighthouse Project - only in the re-learning of how to pay attention, how to be present to Presence, that we will learn how to restore our faith, celebrate our future, and how we will re-imagine our way.
Our ancestors told the stories of theirs with the stars above them. Their wonder, fear, reverence and meaning-making is inscribed onto the walls of caves. Perhaps they intrinsically felt, when living in harmony with the land, that this earthwalk was threaded together by their collective dreaming and waking, their blood and bone part of the mystery of their coming and going, beneath the impossible stars.
The wisdom and universal truths we long for today, are already at our collective backs.
Archetypical myths hold universal truths and timeless themes. They been told in all native cultures, then in religions and within different traditions.
It is in their telling, and in their timeless resonance, and in how they land and settle in us, that we may begin to glimpse their wisdom.
This wisdom offers us maps to navigate, and create meaning, for our lives. We aim to illuminate them in The Cave of Knowledge; playfully, beautifully, shockingly..
The Cave of Knowledge
: will explore the mythic, cultural and spiritual stories of our ancestors.
: will be an intimate, sacred and safe space. A space where artists can feel service to something meaningful.
: performers will create a living, breathing ensemble with the capacity to feel, and play the stories. Other artists will contribute to the exploration of the stories. A company of makers forms ‘in service to’.
: our bodies are the main resource for exploration. Whether we are ‘performers’ or no, lived experience is stored in our sinews, and already holds the wisdom for our own lives.
: expects different modalities of artist will shape the company to bring the stories alive in different media.
: will partner with organisations and spaces that align with this work.
